I decided to take to re-vamp the blog a wee bit…with a little help from one of my blogging/TN buddies (thanks Yasi!!!).
Seems like I’m trying to change a lot of little things in my life right now.
DH and I are going to take a pseudo-spur of the moment trip up to IL for the holiday weekend. We had originally planned on staying in St. Louis and seeing the fireworks under the Arch (since this is our first year living here), but truth be told, I’m REALLY missing my family and friends this summer, and I wanted to spend it with them. Of course, this leads to all of the scheduling difficulties of trying to fit in all of the various people who want to see us, balanced with spending quality time with my Dad and DH’s sister. On the other hand, at least we’re well-loved! 🙂 If only those people would come down here, though…
Another small change I’m making is I’m kicking the birth control this month! Although we’re switching to NFP, which means A LOT more work for me, I’m really trying to focus on making my body healthier, and kicking the hormones. They haven’t been treating me well lately, and I think it’s my body’s way of saying it’s time to go Au Natural.
On the heels of dropping the BC, I now have to pay a lot of attention to the other signs my body is showing me. I’ve been doing a lot of research on PCOS, and it seems like I need to revamp my diet a little bit. Although I count myself blessed that I am not overweight (as many women with PCOS are), I am a little concerned about the weight I do carry. I think because of the PCOS I have a difficult time LOSING weight, and it’s only because of the active and semi-healthy lifestyle I already lead that I’m not heavier than I am. However, I do consume a lot of carbs. DH and I have been trying to switch to less refined carbs, and I’m a HUGE fan of whole wheat pasta, whole wheat breads/pitas, etc. But, I’m still a HUGE fan of potato chips, pasta in general, and cereals, and I need to start knocking some of those starches out.
Over the past couple of years, I’ve slowing been working my way over to the Mediterranean diet…not on purpose, but just a happy accident! I’ve been eating a lot more beans (love me my black beans and garbanzos), and a lot more lean meats. The only thing I’m still not really in to is fish, and that’s definitely reinforced by DH’s hatred of it.
Last week I made this awesome salad:
Mediterranean Chopped Salad: chick peas, black beans, white beans, chunks of chicken, avocado, kalamata olives, spinach, cucumber, onion, feta cheese, and balsamic vinaigrette. Oh so yummy!
